Desktop Notifications only for selected people
Step-by-step guide on how to create Desktop Alerts in Microsoft Outlook 2007 when you receive email from certain people, for instance your boss or manager.Please note: This rule will only work if you have turned off desktop notifications for all emails you receive. 1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007.
2. Go to the ‘Tools’ menu and click on ‘Rules and alerts...”
3. Click on ‘New rule...”
4. ‘Start from a template or from a blank rule’
At the bottom of the window, underneath ‘Start from a blank rule’ click on ‘Check messages when they arrive’. Then click Next.
5. ‘Which condition(s) do you want to check?’
A. Step1: Select the top option ‘from people or distribution list’.
B. Step 2: Click on ‘people or distribution list’ you will be presented with your address book. Either select the person you want to be notified when they send you an email or type in their email address in the From box. Then click OK.
5. After clicking OK the person you selected or the email address you typed will appear in the Step 2 field. Click Next.
6. ‘What do you want to do with the message?’
Step1: select the bottom option in the list (you will need to scroll down) ‘display a desktop alert’. Click Next.
7. ‘Are there any exceptions?’
The next option allows you to provide circumstances when you would not want the notifier to appear. To keep it simple, we are not going to provide any exceptions. Click Next.
8. ‘Finish rule setup’
Now you just need to specify a name for your rule. The Rules Wizard will automatically put the name from the address or the email address you selected as the name of the rule. You can change this if you wish.
9. Now just click on Finish.
10. A message box will appear advising you that this is a client only rule, click ok.
11. Now just click on Apply and the rule will run.
